The World's First Flexible Stone backdrops
Rollable, ultralight, and undeniably REAL STONE photography backdrops.

touch
Sourced from raw geological formations. We preserve the organic fissures, depth, and texture that synthetic alternatives cannot replicate.
Engineered to defy its own nature. Our unique backing allows real stone to flex, roll, and adapt without fracturing the mineral surface.
The prestige of heavy masonry without the logistical burden. Hang it, travel with it, and shape your environment effortlessly.

feel
Explore the micro-details of authentic stone, in high-definition. A tactile surface that absorbs and reflects light like only real stone can. Vayl backdrops deliver the rich, cinematic depth your photography demands.

Some stone surfaces are too unique to become a standard offering. When we discover rare color variations, unusual mineral formations, or one-of-a-kind patterns within a slab that deviate too far from expectations, we preserve them as Limited Edition backdrops. They get pulled aside in small quantities and often never repeated. These releases offer photographers the opportunity to own something truly distinctive. And when they're gone, they're gone.

Natural stone is inherently unique. Variations in color, veining, pattern, texture, and movement are normal and expected, even within the same stone type and within the same order. We make every effort to keep product photos current and representative; however, lighting conditions and screen/monitor settings can affect how stone appears online.
Because Vayl products are made from genuine stone, small amounts of flaking, chipping, shaling, dusting, or stone shedding may occur during shipping, handling, storage, setup, and normal use. These characteristics are inherent to natural stone and are not considered manufacturing defects.
By purchasing, you acknowledge and accept that the panel you receive may differ from photos and from other panels due to natural variation, and that these differences are not considered defects.
All panels are pre-sealed with a non-VOC matte sealer to protect and enhance the stone’s natural color while helping keep the surface more studio-friendly.
Panel surfaces are water and splash resistant, but not waterproof. Do not submerge the panels in water.
Stone is naturally porous and may stain in contact with various substances.
Yes. Vayl backdrops feature a genuine layer of actual stone, quarried from the earth, applied to a flexible backing, giving you the authentic texture, movement, and variation of natural stone without the weight and rigidity of a traditional slab.
Yes, but flexibility varies by stone and texture. Smoother backdrops tend to be more flexible, while thicker, deeply textured surfaces may need to be rolled more loosely.
Not exactly, and that is part of what makes each Vayl unique. Because Vayl is made with real stone, color, veining, pattern, texture, and movement naturally vary from sheet to sheet. Product photos represent the overall character of each stone run, but your individual piece will be one of a kind.
Limited Editions are cut from especially distinctive portions of a stone run and may feature unique shifts in color, pattern, or movement. The product images are representative, but each Limited Edition piece can vary substantially.
Vayl backdrops are protected with a matte, non-VOC sealer that preserves the natural appearance and texture of the stone while helping protect the surface during normal use.
Cold, dry foods can generally be placed directly on the surface. For oily, acidic, strongly colored, or wet foods, we recommend using a plate, liner, or other barrier to help prevent staining. Do not cut directly on the backdrop.
No. Do not place hot pans, cookware, or other high-temperature items directly on your Vayl. Always use a heat-safe barrier.
Vayl can handle light splashes during normal use, but it should not be submerged or left wet for extended periods. Wipe spills promptly with a soft cloth.
Gently wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive scrubbers, harsh chemicals, cutting tools, and aggressive rubbing, which may damage the natural stone surface or protective finish.
Minor flaking or “shaling” can occur because Vayl is made from genuine stone. This is especially normal with deeply textured styles such as Rainbow and is not considered a defect.
Unroll the backdrop carefully and allow it to rest flat for approximately one hour. If needed, gently warm the backing with a hair dryer on low. Do not overheat the surface or force a tight crease in the material.
Store your Vayl flat or loosely rolled, with the stone surface facing outward. Avoid folding it, tightly rolling deeply textured styles, or exposing it to extreme temperatures.
Vayl is available in four sizes:
24 × 24 inches: Ideal for small products, food details, and tight tabletop scenes.
24 × 48 inches: A versatile size for tabletop photography and seamless surface-to-background setups.
48 × 48 inches: Great for larger products, wider scenes, headshots, and close portraits.
48 × 96 inches: Designed for full tables, large sets, full-length compositions, and maximum versatility.
Weight varies slightly by stone and texture, but most Vayl backdrops weigh approximately one pound per square foot.
Absolutely. Larger sizes work beautifully for headshots, close portraits, fashion details, and creative sets. The genuine stone texture creates depth that printed backdrops cannot replicate.
Vayl orders are generally shipped twice each month, around the 1st and 15th, and can take 2-4 weeks for delivery. Smaller sizes may be available in stock, while 48 × 48 and 48 × 96 Monolith and "Special Order" backdrops are typically made to order, and can take 4-6 weeks for delivery. Holiday schedules may add a small amount of processing time.
Yes. Standard shipping within the United States is included with your order.
Not yet. Vayl currently ships within the United States only.
Eligible items may be returned within 30 days. Customers are responsible for return shipping, and the backdrop must be returned in its original condition. Natural differences in color, veining, pattern, and texture are expected and are not considered defects. Vayl backdrops also come with a 5 year warranty against manufacturer defects.
No. Damage caused by misuse, including excessive heat, tight folding, cutting, abrasion, improper storage, or staining, is not covered by the warranty or return policy.
